Haagen-Dazs Coffee Ice Cream Review: Sweet, Bitter, and Wholesomely Smooth!

Arguably one of the best ice cream you can find at your local grocery stores is from a brand named Haagen-Dazs.

If you’re cooped up in your home late at night watching movies, this is the ice cream for you. Or if you’ve had a pretty bad breakup with a significant other, this is the ice cream for you.

Do yourself a big favor and get yourself a Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream because you deserve this!

Where can you find Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream?

The Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream can be found at some of your typical local grocery stores including Kroger, Walmart, and Target. You can also purchase this ice cream flavor using same-day delivery services online.

What type of packaging does Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream come in?

The container we got from Kroger was 14fl oz (414mL).

To put things into perspective 14fl oz is about the same size as canned food such as a can of corn.

Haagen-Dazs produces their coffee ice cream and places it into a miniaturized container that carries a resemblance to those typical half-gallon ice cream buckets at the general grocery store.

It seems to be made of both a paper substance and a plastic layer. The mini-bucket is designed with a picture of whole coffee beans in the front with specific nutritional facts on the back.

What are the nutritional facts about Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream?

The nutritional label explains that a serving size is equivalent to ⅔ of a measuring cup (128g).

And that the entire 14fl oz mini-bucket contains about 2.5 servings in it.

Now, this is Haagen-Dazs, and if you’re familiar with the brand, you’ll know that it’s made of very rich ingredients. The flavors are no less than amazing. But as per what you get with every serving, you’ll find:

  • 21g of fat
  • 65mg of sodium
  • 5g of protein
  • 24g of sugar
  • 25g of carbs

In total, a single serving weighs in at just about 300 calories. I know, 300 calories for s single serving isn’t particularly low, but this is ice cream we’re talking about. Unsurprisingly though, your typical serving of vanilla ice cream contains about 137 calories in it.

Again, it’s rich. But if you’re going to indulge, this is the way to do it. I suppose it makes sense as to why these treats come in smaller packages.

As for the ingredients, I see nothing at all to be concerned about. Every ingredient here is basically in English. All of the ingredients used in this ice cream seem to come naturally and typical of any standard substance used in making ice cream.

What is Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream made of?

I see no reason at all to be concerned with the ingredients they used to make this ice cream. In fact, I’m pretty surprised that Haagen-Dazs’ ingredients are so plain and simple. How can something so good be so simple, am I right?

Haagen-Dazs explains in their ingredients that they make this particular ice cream out of:

  • Cream
  • Skim milk
  • Cane sugar
  • Egg yolks
  • Coffee

So it seems that this ice cream is not just coffee-flavored, but it’s actually made of real coffee as well.

Aside from the simple ingredients, there are a few things you should consider when eating this ice cream. I should caution those with allergies that this food does contain milk and egg ingredients. It shouldn’t be anything surprising as to how it’s already listed in the ingredients section.

What does Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream look like?

This is one of the most exciting things for me. I know, I’m weird. But looking at the ice cream and the scoops that come out of it really gets me craving for it.

Let’s go ahead and take off the top, peel off the seal, and dig in.

Haagen-Dazs’ coffee ice cream has a uniform light brown color all throughout. There’s not much to say here but don’t be surprised if you were to find nothing inspiring from the look of the ice cream.

What is the texture of Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream like?

I think this is one of the most important topics to go through when talking about ice cream. However, it varies because of how it’s stored. Not all freezers are built the same way and not all temperature settings come standard in every home.

My freezer might be colder than yours or vice verse. So it might make a major difference in the texture of the ice cream. The temperature at which your freezer should be is 0° F (-18° C) and that’s what your ice cream should be kept in. However, your local grocery store has a standard 10° F (-12° C) that it should never go over. This gives quite a different, softer texture if you were to eat it right after buying it and taking it home.

In any case, we have ours at 0° F and the ice cream is pretty cold. It’s also very hard which requires lots of effort to scoop it out.

However, once it’s in your mouth, you get the rich and creamy texture that all ice cream have. Don’t quote me on this, but I experience a much more creamy texture coming from this brand than most. I don’t know what it is, but I like it.

Do kids like Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream?

I don’t need even bother testing this out, but I did. Both my son and daughter loved it. On the other hand, it is made with coffee and that has caffeine in it. So it’s something young and growing kids should avoid.

Don’t worry though, I have each kid a single scoop and man they loved it.

I think it had to do with a combination of the creaminess, the richness, and the sweet flavor all mixed into one bite.

What can you eat along with Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream?

You should eat this ice cream completely by itself. It’s so good and that it doesn’t need anything to compliment it.

But if you are looking to go wild with your taste pallete, try adding slices of fresh bananas, strawberries and drizzle some chocolate syrup over it. That’s right, you can turn it into something like a coffee ice cream sundae.

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

How long does Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream last?

This is a frozen food and so you shouldn’t be surprised by the actual freezer life. Judging from the time I got it from the store to the expiration date, I would guess that you have just about 10 months to eat it all.

This isn’t going to be a struggle. With the miniature size of the package and the delicious flavor, the ice cream shouldn’t even last more than a week if you were to eat it sparingly.

How would I rate Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream?

It’s Haagen-Dazs. What can I even say? It’s always a winner in my book. And this coffee version is no different.

Actually, it is different. It’s my new favorite by a mile. It’s just so good that I can’t do it justice in words. I wish you could try this with me and if you’re interested I highly recommend going to the store and grabbing yourself a small bucket. You can even find it on Amazon here.

If you are a coffee lover and an ice cream lover, then this is the ice cream made especially for you. However, it is quite sweet and I would understand how some coffee drinkers might frown against that. But again, this is ice cream and ice cream is supposed to be sweet anyway.

Since its coffee, and if you’re wondering if there’s any bitterness to it. The answer is no. At least for me, there was an almost unnoticeable amount of bitterness from the coffee. I would argue that it is hardly bitter at all. But since there is only a teeny tiny bit of the coffee bitterness, I’m not going to categorize it as bitter at all.

Don’t get me wrong, the coffee flavor is there. It’s apparent and you’ll notice it almost immediately during the first bite.

It’s hard for me to even come up with a con about this product. It’s just that good.

Who makes Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream?

This may be surprising but Haagen-Dazs is a company from the Bronx, New York in 1960. The brand was created right here in the US, not Denmark, not Germany, nor Sweden. The creator Reuben Mattus went against the grain during the time and vowed to only include the finest ingredients.

The company is named HDIP, inc.

The company started off with just 3 simple flavors, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. Strawberries came 6 years later only because he struggled to find strawberries that were good enough for the brand. Today, there are over 50 flavors of Haagen-Dazs branded ice cream.

They have further progressed to all kinds of new flavors. I’ve branched into frozen yogurts, sorbets, and then gelatos. They are phasing out GMO ingredients and are now pushing forward a new lighter ice cream.

The company has been around for a really long time. I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. Haagen-Dazs has created a strong brand.
