McDonald’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich Review: Is it Enough Against the Competition?
It’s hard to believe there’s an actual fast-food war going on right now in front of our eyes.
With Chick-fil-A having such a massive success with their famous chicken sandwich, it seems that one of the most popular fast-food brands in the world is wanting a piece of that attention as well.
Millions and even billions of dollars are at stake as more and more fast-food franchises are trying to mimic Chick-fil-A’s tried and true product.
I had my chance at trying out McDonald’s take on the crispy chicken sandwich.
This is my full review.
Where can you find McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich?
You can find McDonald’s newest Crispy Chicken sandwich at almost all McDonald’s locations all across the United States. Once announced, the McDonald’s corporation was able to deliver crispy chicken food and supplies to virtually every single store in the nation.
There are some disclaimers explaining that this is a limited-time offer and not all stores are participating in the promotion.
My guess is that it’s referring to those stores that are directly integrated with bigger entities like the McDonald’s located within theme parks.
What type of packaging does McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich come in?
The packaging is made simple. It’s simple aluminum on the inside and paper on the outside. Compared to Chick-fil-A, this is way too similar of an approach.
I understand the reason behind using an aluminum wrapping or bag to help keep the heat and moisture inside, however, I don’t know if it’s entirely necessary since most people who buy food usually eat it within 30 minutes of buying it.
Honestly, a regular biodegradable paper bag would do.
Going back to the bag itself, I hate to say it but there’s not much to look at. It’s a very uninspiring bag. There seems to be some kind of blotch of peach across most of the bag and a small cross-section pickle on the side.
My guess is that the peach blob represents the crispy chicken patty.
What are the nutritional facts about McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich?
So in the bag, one sandwich is one serving.
What you get in this one serving is the main course.
Let’s dive into the facts.
- 20g of fat
- 1100mg of sodium
- 27g of protein
- 9g of sugar
- 45g of carbs
In total, a single sandwich would add about 470 calories to your diet. This isn’t entirely much but it isn’t a slouch of a meal as long as it’s the only thing you get. However, I’m certain you’ll be needing those medium fries and a large coke as well.
I just want to point one thing out though. That is a lot of sodium.
Just keep in mind that a single sandwich alone isn’t that bad.
As for the actual ingredients used, McDonald’s holds nothing back. I got to hand it to them since they are very transparent about their ingredients which I appreciate.
While scanning through the entire ingredient list, I found nothing of too much concern. Almost all of it is just simple and regular ingredients while some are used as binders. There are some typical food additives that act as dispersing and thickening agents as well.
What is McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich made of?
As for the actual ingredients used, McDonald’s holds nothing back. I got to hand it to them since they are very transparent about their ingredients which I appreciate.
I wouldn’t want to bore you with this but McDonald’s ingredient list seems to cover everything from the chicken patty, to the potato roll, the pickle slice, and even the butter used.

There’s also a very common preservative used in the pickle which I don’t see any concern over.
However, it’s important to add that the butter contains milk so if you are allergic or have an intolerance to that, you should at least be aware of this.
How does McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich look?
Presentation is half the battle and since McDonald’s is doing this in direct competition to the brand, it’s safe to say that one priority should be to make the sandwich look good.
Just for record, I measured the sandwich to be approximately 4.75 inches in diameter.
I’m not sure if this is the case or if it’s was intentional or not. But my potato bun turned out very dark brown. It almost looked burnt.
I’m not a fan of the color but I never judge a book by its cover anyway.
The pickles looked pretty defined. Yeah, I’m not sure what I’m talking about either, but in my eye’s they look like good pickles.
Finally, the star of the show, the chicken patty. It was nice, big and really thick. I measured the entire sandwich to be about 2.5 inches thick with the chicken patty itself being about 0.75 inches thick.
Overall, it looked like a certified chicken sandwich. I had no issues with it at all except for the burnt-looking bun.
What are the textures of the McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich?
Let’s start with the bun. Just by holding the sandwich in my hands, I was afraid of one thing. I was praying that the bun wasn’t dry. Spoiler alert, it was. Now, to be fair, I’m comparing it to my experience with Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich and that bun is really soft and moist.
The McDonald’s bun seems to be a little thick, a tad bit on the dryer side, and just rough around the surface. It’s not even a terrible thing. It by no means makes the sandwich undesirable either.
It’s just a preference I have and that’s completely my opinion.
The patty was great. I had no issues with the patty. It was a big chunk of meat. It was nice as crunchy as it should be. Perhaps, it was a bit crunchier than Chick-fil-A’s.
Do kids like McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich?
I gave each kid a bite. They liked it but didn’t want more. That’s about all I can say about that.
What can you eat with McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich?
This is an easy one. Every time you go to McDonald’s, do yourself a favor and get a side of fries and a drink. There’s no point in enjoying a McDonald’s meal and trying to limit yourself from the experience.
One thing I would like to not recommend is going out for fast-food too often. I splurge maybe once a week and make my own meals every other day.
How long does McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich promo last?
At this time, it doesn’t seem like McDonald’s even stated how long their promotion on this idea would last. Will it go away? Or will it be seasonal like the McRib?
At this time, no one knows except for McDonald’s.
How would I rate McDonald’s Crispy Chicken sandwich?
It’s not a bad sandwich. It’s got all the ingredients to make it a well-thought-out main course. I got to hand to McDonald’s, this is a good start.
The chicken patty was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The flavor and the seasoning were very tasty. I’d say it was well seasoned indeed. I had no issues with it.
Moving forward, I would like McDonald’s to make some improvements on the bun. It was just too dry and could’ve been better deployed.
Perhaps I was unlucky enough to have a cook overcook my bun. I can’t be sure unless I go out and get it again.

If you didn’t already know, McDonald’s is one of the biggest fast-food chains in all of the world. Its hand reaches into every single continent of almost every single country.
It’s a company that started in 1955 east of the Mississippi river by a Ray Kroc. With over 38,600 locations all over the world and being worth about $150 billion dollars, McDonald’s is a worldwide brand.
If you visit their website, you’ll see that they’ve made strives and leaps forward about being transparent with their food. They invite questions about their food and are committed to the quality and transparency of their products.
While over the last half a century, McDonald’s has improved their menus and have made calculated decisions on what new items to place on their menu. You’ll rarely see new and permanent items every stay.
As they continue to experiment and provide their version of new and trending meals to their customers, I will be there to try it out.
