Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends Review: Avocado, Veggie, & Kale Apples

How doesOnce Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends taste?

Here’s a disclaimer: I probably should have reviewed each of these bags separately. It’s already too late anyway. They are so different in flavor that they should have their own article.

Wild Rumpus Avocado

I got a little thrown off when I first tasted each one of these couches. It’s definitely sweet at first but then there is a much more overpowering sourness to it and maybe a hint of bitterness.

With that being said, I was really surprised at some of the ingredients and the flavors I came into this. The first time you ever try this, it’s going to hit you with a surprise.

OhMyMega Veggie

In my opinion, I’m going to give this one the prize. I think it’s the best out of all 3 because it has a combination of sweetness and a bit of a kick to it thanks to the ginger.

In fact, I juggle the idea by wondering if this is really even for kids. I mean I know kids can eat ginger, but do any kids like ginger? The sweetness of the red beets brings me back to a time when my parents always made me red beet soup. Those were amazing and this kind of reminds me of that.

Green Kale & Apples

I want to say that this one is very similar to when you go to a smoothie shop and order a green drink. The one where there’s a combination of apple, kale, and a bunch of other green stuff in it. The only thing it’s missing is probably going to be the celery so it’s a bit sweeter.

The kale aroma is definitely pretty strong. It comes only a second after tasting the apples and bananas. There is a pretty obvious spice to the kale. It’s not bad.

What I like about Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends

I like that these snacks are incredibly healthy adding on the  whole organic and non-GMO oh, and no added sugar benefits. From what I understand, the cold pressure method of making these protects it and locks in the nutrients.

The company prides itself on its organic foundation. Some people may be turned away since  they come to the generalization that it’s a snap and that it should be sweet. However, I found it a bit refreshing to taste how sweet it was. Don’t get me wrong, there definitely is a hint of  Sweetness in every spoon, but you can also taste the sourness as well.

I actually love the different ingredients that are used in these packages. In fact, you know how you always find a ton of ingredients in a lot of different types of packaged foods? Well, you don’t get any of those hard to pronounce words ingredients in this snack. In fact, you only get ingredients that you can actually pronounce like pineapple, avocado, carrot, beet, apple, banana, and so on.

What I do not like about Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends

I got a little thrown off when I first tasted each one of these couches. They’re definitely not sweet and there is a much more overpowering sourness to it.

With that being said, I was really surprised at some of the ingredients and the flavors I came into this. The first time you ever try this, it’s going to hit you with a surprise.

However, I’m going to say this, this flavor is probably the most bitter out of all of them.  but it’s still not as bad as I’m making it sound.

Wild Rumpus Avocado

This packet was the most unique out of all the three. I say that because you wouldn’t have guessed the major ingredients here. Aside from the fact that you’ll probably guess that it comes with pineapple and bananas, I bet you would be surprised if  I told you it had avocados in it too.   At least that’s what I believe since the picture of an avocado is front and center on the packet. I love avocados, I just wish this had more emphasis on that.

OhMyMega Veggie

Another pretty big surprise comes when you taste the OhMyMega veggie blend. Now, this one’s actually really sweet. And that comes as no surprise since beats are pretty sweet in nature.  What comes as the best surprise though, is that at the end you can sort of taste some ginger. I kind of like it now. Some people might not, so if you’re the type of person who does not like ginger at all, then this might not be it for you.

Green Kale & Apples

Now, take for example the green kale and apples. When I took my first spoonful of this flavor, I was first hit with the apple-banana combination, and then suddenly the unique bitter taste of kale. It’s a strong, earthy and almost a bit dry taste.

It also has a bit of a spice to it too but it’s not enough to say that it’s spicy. I hate that I had to put it in the “I do not like” column. In fact it’s not bad, and I could see a lot of people actually enjoying this. It just hits you with surprise and it’s something you definitely don’t expect.

What goes well with Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends

These are great to just eat right out of the pouch.  But if you’re wondering what’s the best way to eat it and how to enjoy it here’s a few tips below.

  • Make sure you keep it refrigerated.
  • You have to enjoy it within 3 days of opening it.
  • If you’re traveling with it, be sure to use an ice pack.
  • You can also freeze it and enjoy it after thawing.
  •  Do not microwave these poaches.

What does Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends look like?

All of the different flavors basically look like puree. The same thing you would find when you open up a jar of baby food. The only differentiating factor I see in all three of these are the slight variations in color.

In every single package if you look closely, you’ll be able to see the tiny bits of fiber dots floating around. I think there might even be some shredded seeds that were kept in the puree. But don’t worry they’re so tiny that I would be surprised if you could even feel them in your mouth.

Green Kale and Apples

This one has the color of deep dark green with a hint of yellow.

How’s the texture of Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends?

It doesn’t taste anything like a smoothie or anything, in fact the texture is similar to something more like a puree.

Imagine opening up one of those tiny jars of Gerber baby purees. This is pretty much what the texture is. It’s very uniform throughout, and there aren’t any big differences between the three packets that I reviewed. The blending process would be considered pretty superb oh, and they filtered out whatever seeds and large objects that may require chewing.

What are the ingredients in Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends?

The ingredients that they used in these packets are pretty pure and simple. Like I explained above, you’re not going to find any words that you can’t pronounce. In fact everything here is just regular fruits and vegetables. And there are literally maybe a handful that are put into place, Blended, and then packaged.

How long does Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends last?

According to the package, if you open this up and don’t plan to eat all of it right away, then you have about three days to finish it before it goes bad.

Also, according to the expiration date, it looks like these Blended packets will expire about 3 months after my initial purchase. So you have about three months to eat it all together.

How are Once Upon A Farm Cold-Pressed Blends packaged?

This came at me with a little bit of concern, the bags are thick and heavy and strong which I do appreciate but I wonder what the recycling implications are for so many. There are these thick plastic tubes that go into the bag and everything else that it takes to make this bag doesn’t seem very environmentally friendly. However, I can’t complain since it’s not the fault of the company. The very nature of this type of food requires a strong seal perhaps only  such a thick plastic can achieve.

However, the designs on the bags are very fun and enjoyable to look at. They really did put a lot of emphasis on the design. The art is flat and colorful, which I do like. I like how the fruits and vegetables are all piled up at the bottom with all the animals and bugs sticking their heads out from the top of the package. The design team gets an A-Plus.
